Radio Horton Gazebo

Supporting the local community –
Charity Gazebos

Over the past decade Gazeboshop has supported many charities and rescue centres, including Dorset based, Monkley World Ape Resue Centre, through generous discounts.

This November we were proud to support Radio Horton, North Oxfordshire’s hospital radio station, with a striking blue gazebo. The station, which is now in it’s 50th year of broadcasting, exists simply because the Horton is on occasions the temporary “home” for local people. To show our appreciation for the service they provide, we printed the station’s logo on the front valance free of charge.

Two local businesses have come together to rescue outside broadcasts for the Horton General Hospital’s Radio Horton.

The station’s trusty outside broadcast trailer has become dangerous to use after many years of sterling service. A replacement will cost thousands of pounds, so kind-hearted local businessman and Radio Horton Presenter & Committee Member, Bob Dainty stepped in to save the station’s outside broadcasts by funding the purchase of a gazebo out of his own pocket until enough money can be raised to buy a new or reconditioned trailer.

Bob, who lives in Hanwell, said, “The radio station has got bookings until the end of the year that it wants to honour. We don’t want to let anybody down. So I looked on the internet to find a gazebo as a temporary measure and found Banbury-based Gazeboshop”

Bob approached the family-run, Thorpe Way Industrial Estate-based business to see if it could assist. Bob said, “I’m a local businessman and I wanted to keep this purchase within Banbury.”

The firm, run by Managing Director Luigi Pannozzo, price matched a stunning blue gazebo and offered to print the station’s logo along the front valance free of charge. Luigi said, “We wanted to do what we could because Radio Horton does a good job and the volunteers work hard to make things happen. We wanted to do our bit to help.”

The gazebo had its first outing on Saturday 8th November at an outside broadcast for Adderbury Firework Night at Bo Peep Farm.

Radio Horton is now embarking on a major fundraising initiative in order to raise £10,000 to buy a new or reconditioned outside broadcast trailer. The trailer is used at a number of high profile Banbury community events every year, including the Katharine House Hospice Midnight Walk, Santa Fun Run and Banbury Canal Day.
